When deciding which alternative to WeTransfer to use, first consider what your actual needs are, as sometimes free platforms may only provide basic options, so if you need to use advanced tools you may find a paid platform is much more worthwhile. Which alternative to WeTransfer is best for you? We've also featured the best free cloud storage service. A great option for sharing large video files. You can share smaller files (or folders) through the Terashare website, but you'll need to install the app for larger ones. However, Terashare's hybrid system means that files under 10GB – which is likely to be most of them – are stored on its servers and are therefore accessible regardless of whether your computer is switched on. It's based on BitTorrent which makes it ideal for sharing very large files, or sharing files with a lot of people.īecause of the way it works, very large files (over 10GB) can only be shared when your computer is switched on and accessible to those you want to share with. Terashare is a little different from the other services we've looked at. The Personal plan is free, but if you want more storage, the Business Standard plan costs $12 per user per month when billed annually. More than this, you can opt to give people different rights when you share with them, such as giving them only the ability to view the files you share, or allowing them to edit them.įlexible, powerful and easy to use, and with the option for collaborative work with G Suite tools such as Google's online word processor, spreadsheet and presentation software, the possibilities are near limitless. You can share individual files as required, or you can share entire folders of files. The sharing options available in Google Drive are impressive and varied. If you stick with a free account, you're given 15GB of storage as standard, but you can upgrade this by paying a monthly or annual fee, with options up generous allowances from 100GB. You can Google Drive to share files with friends, family and co-workers. Google lives in the cloud, so it's little wonder that it offers a cloud storage service. There are four plans available starting with the OneDrive for Business Plan 1 costing $5 per user per month. And OneDrive can handle files as large as 100 GB. However, the free version of OneDrive available with Windows can suit if you'd rather not pay, but if that's the case you're missing out on what is probably he most cost-efficient cloud storage option out there. That, of course, is also the catch - you need to subscribe to Microsoft 365 to take full advantage of this. While there are a number of cloud storage provider options, OneDrive excels for the simple fact that Microsoft 365 accounts come with a massive 1TB of storage. If you need to share files and folders with other people than that's a breeze too, as OneDrive will just generate a link for you. Microsoft OneDrive works like the other well-known consumer cloud storage options, the likes of Dropbox, Google Drive and iCloud: you specify the files and folders you want it to back up, and they get automatically synced with copies in the cloud, as well as all the other computers and devices where you've got OneDrive set up.ĭrop a file or folder into OneDrive, and it's synced to the cloud (and your other devices) – if you want to save space on your local machine, you can just keep a copy in the cloud, which is handy.

Denver has not recorded a high temperature below freezing yet this winter and that has never happened before. It will be our coldest day of the season so far. Thanks to new snow on the ground, Saturday afternoon highs will not break out of the teens. For everyone, wind chill values - what it actually feels like on your skin - will be in the 0- to -20-degree range. Temperatures in Colorado Springs will be in the mid-teens Saturday morning. Saturday morning temperatures should bottom out between 5 to 10 degrees, from Fort Collins to Castle Rock. Those out celebrating the New Year will be faced with some bitter cold. By midnight, temperatures will be well into the lower to mid-teens. This will bring temperatures from the 40s in and around Denver down into the teens and 20s in the early afternoon. We haven’t seen cold like this since way early in the year and have definitely not seen temperatures like this yet this season.Ī cold front will drop down from Wyoming on Friday morning. Coldįirst off, the cold that is coming with this storm is going to be pretty intense. Here are the details on the incoming snow and cold for New Year. While some of the snow that is coming will fall on the last day of this month, we will still end the month with below-average snowfall. This season has only produced 0.3 inches of snow thus far - well behind the normal 20-plus inches we should have by the end of December. It’s been quite some time since we’ve talked about a big snowstorm in Denver and while this won’t be a chart-topping storm, it will produce the most snow we’ve seen this winter and sub-zero temperatures.Ī strong trough digging into the Pacific Northwest will conjoin with a weak disturbance near the southern California coast to bring the Front Range its first substantial snow of the season. Thanks to a New Year’s Eve snowstorm, we ended December with almost half of the normal precipitation that is expected but that snowstorm is what kicked off January on a good note.Digital Replica Edition Home Page Close Menu Through December, our dry woes continued with below-normal precipitation falling for the month. The extremely dry conditions over an extended time period only exacerbated our deepening drought. Each of those months, less than a tenth of an inch of moisture fell for the entire month. October and November provided Denver with hardly anything measurable. June, July and August are some of our wettest months of the year but the recent June through August stretch was anything but wet. Notably, June through December was Denver’s driest last six months of the year on record. After a very wet spring, summer quickly came with dry weather that stayed put through the end of the year. It has been exceptionally dry across Denver since last June. After a bit of a lull in the middle of the month, we snagged another round of snow which gave us enough moisture to surpass what is typically expected for the entire month. Just a few days later, another round of snow brought a decent amount of moisture with it. January came in strong as snow was falling from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day. Things haven’t quite turned around yet but we at least have officially ended our streak of months with below-average moisture. Examples, conceptual exercises and exercises using software are featured throughout, together with case studies in Stata, mostly from the social sciences true to the book’s goal to facilitate the use of modern methods of data science in the field. It also explains how to construct n-gram variables from text data. In particular, the book presents logistic regression, regularized linear models such as the Lasso, nearest neighbors, the Naive Bayes classifier, classification trees, random forests, boosting, support vector machines, feature engineering, neural networks, and stacking. Below these options, the tab also shows music recently added to the user's library. The "Library" tab shows the user's music collection, with options to view songs by "Playlists", "Artists", "Albums", "Songs", or "Downloaded Music". As of late 2019, users also have the ability to access the full version of Apple Music through an Apple-designed web player in beta.Īpple Music's interface consists of five tabs: "Library", "Listen Now", "Browse", "Radio", and "Search". Additionally, the service is heavily integrated into Apple's own in-house services such as their personal voice assistant Siri as well as their audio and video streaming protocol AirPlay. Apple Music's use of iCloud, which matches a users' songs to those found on the service, allows users to combine their iTunes music library with their Apple Music library and listen to their music all in one place. Apple Music subscribers can create a profile to share their music with friends and follow other users to view the music they are listening to on a regular basis. The Apple Music Radio service is free for all users, even without an Apple Music subscription. The service provides three live 24-hour radio stations: Apple Music 1, led by DJ Zane Lowe, Apple Music Hits, and Apple Music Country, which is broadcast in over 100 countries. The service offers curated playlists by music experts and recommendations tailored to a users music preference. Description Īpple Music allows users to stream over 100 million songs to their device on demand. Īs of May 5, 2023, the most streamed song of all time on Apple Music is Shape of You by Ed Sheeran with more than 930 million plays worldwide. As of October 2022, Apple Music reached the 100 million songs milestone in its streaming catalog in October 2022. Though Apple does not disclose the amount of paid subscribers, research firm Midia Research estimated it at 78 million as of November 2021. Apple Music gained popularity rapidly after its launch, passing the milestone of 10 million subscribers in only six months. In iOS 10, the app received a significant redesign, which received positive reviews for an updated interface with less clutter, improved navigation, and a bigger emphasis on users' libraries. However, it was praised for its playlist curation, a vast library of songs to stream, and its integration with other Apple devices and services. The original iOS version of Apple Music received mixed reviews, with criticism directed towards a user interface deemed "not intuitive". The company is actively investing heavily in the production and purchasing of video content, both in terms of music videos and concert footage that support music releases, as well as web series and feature films. Executive Jimmy Iovine has stated that the intention for the service is to become a "cultural platform", and Apple reportedly wants the service to be a "one-stop shop for pop culture". Originally strictly a music service, Apple Music began expanding into video in 2016. New subscribers get a one-month free or six months free trial with the purchase of select products before the service requires a monthly subscription. The service was announced on June 8, 2015, and launched on June 30, 2015. The service also includes the Internet radio stations Apple Music 1, Apple Music Hits, and Apple Music Country, which are broadcast live to over 200 countries 24 hours a day. If you're in the market for a crossover with fewer drawbacks, consider the Honda CR-V, which has more cargo and passenger room, plus a more satisfying 1.5-liter turbo engine. (Thankfully, this is a stand-alone option at all trim levels.) Finally, even moderately sized passengers will balk at the limited rear headroom afforded by the panoramic sunroof. It feels slower than rival powerplants, and its fuel-saving stop-start function is annoying in operation and cannot be disabled. We're also not huge fans of the standard turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. The high cost of entry is a theme that repeats since the Equinox is more expensive than competitors when comparing trims on a feature-by-feature basis. The next-level LS costs thousands more and doesn't add much. It's special-order only, so you're unlikely to find one on a dealer lot. Don't get thrown off by the seemingly affordable base L trim level, either. The Equinox is priced higher than many of its rivals, for instance. Things, however, fall apart in execution. We also like that the Equinox is one of the few entries in the class that offer an upgraded engine. It also delivers a smooth, comfortable ride, and the seats are shaped for all-day comfort. There's plenty of legroom all around, and cargo space is definitely better than what you'll find in a comparably priced sedan or hatchback. The body sides get various creases and character lines, while the wheel arches are much less pronounced than before.Certainly, the Chevrolet Equinox does the SUV thing well. Stacked vertical taillights have been replaced by horizontal lamps that are visually connected by a full-width crease across the liftgate. The new model is only 0.9 inch lower and 0.1 inch wider, but it appears more squat. The redesigned face closely aligns the Equinox with new Chevy styling seen on the Cruze, the Malibu, and the Traverse. The headlights no longer encroach into the hood’s territory, and the grille, which now features active shutters, is higher and wider. The new Equinox isn’t knockout gorgeous-what small crossover is?-but the fresh styling imparts a restrained, handsome look, like a post-haircut Gordon Hayward. There is a smidge of body movement, specifically some dive during hard braking, but overall the suspension is firm and well damped, largely keeping disturbances to a minimum. The cabin is quiet, the sense of isolation enhanced by a chassis and suspension setup that’s more refined than in the previous Equinox. Engaging the AWD system also cures the torque steer, but in either mode the 2.0T feels legitimately quick, significantly more so than the 1.5T. One need not come to a stop to engage the rear axle, and once the button is pressed, all-wheel drive will remain engaged even if the car is turned off and restarted. If the car senses wheel slippage, it triggers an alert on the instrument cluster suggesting that the driver switch to all-wheel drive, which is accomplished by pressing a button on the center console. And when it is, there’s a noticeable amount of torque steer, because all-wheel-drive Equinoxes like the one we drove default to front-drive by decoupling the rear axle in the interest of fuel economy. The lower power peaks make more sense for a small SUV that’ll likely spend most of its time tooling around town-it’s better when the oomph is easily accessible.īoosted engines can have turbo lag, and, foot to the floor in the Equinox, there’s a definite pause before the bowstring is released. The 2.0’s output reaches 252 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm versus the previous V-6’s 301 horses at 6500 rpm and 272 lb-ft at 4800 rpm. The base, turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four with its modest 170 horsepower might trigger flashbacks, but the optional 2.0-liter turbo that replaces the previous 3.6-liter V-6 as the step-up choice has much more life, and it pairs with a new nine-speed automatic transmission that is smooth and well programmed. The new 2018 model wants to suppress those memories with a revamped engine lineup. The wall prevents the beam from falling down, hence the inclusion of a reaction force, Ry, upwards. The fixing at the wall prevents any rotation hence the inclusion of a reaction moment, M, to represent the resistance in the rotational sense provided by the wall. This represents a simple beam fixed at one end, often referred to as a cantilever beam. Ry is still present to represent the reaction force upwards due to the weight of the structure. Correspondingly, there is no resistance in the x-direction, hence there is no need for a reaction force, Rx in this case. In each case the structure is either on a roller (frictionless wheel) or in the centre a frictionless table. Rx is present because we know that if we try to push the structure in the x direction there will be a resistance of some sort. In the diagram above, the top row shows the structure and the bottom row shows the FBD.įor the simple joints shown there is a reaction Ry due to the presence of the surface reaction force pushing upwards on the structure – this is the reaction force due to the weight of the structure acting down. Structures that interact with the ground can be modelled with different types of ‘supports’. Put on essential dimensions but do not clutter the diagram with unnecessary information. The calculations will give a negative value for the force if wrong.ĥ. + or – direction) is unknown assume the positive direction. Unknown forces should have the magnitude and direction represented by a symbol. Include the weight of the bodies where appreciable. Add all known forces as vector arrows showing position and direction and with magnitude (including units) written alongside. Draw the boundary which isolates the body from all surrounding bodies and supports.ģ. Decide which body or combination of bodies is to be isolated.Ģ. The free-body diagram is one of the most important steps in the solution of problems in engineering. The forces may result from externally applied pushes or pulls, from gravity forces such as the bodies own weight, from forces exerted by other bodies and must include reactions from any supports. It shows the external forces and couples acting on the system (drawn carefully with respect to location, direction and magnitude). Representing supports in Free Body DiagramsĪ free-body diagram is a sketch of a body, a portion of a body, or two or more bodies completely isolated from all other bodies. In this free engineering tutorial we shall review: Our results support the idea that the practice of resolving forces into the components may not be the most effective way to develop understanding of Newton’s laws and the concept of force. How to Draw and Analyse Free Body Diagrams (FBDs) Students from the control group (SG) more often exhibited the misconception that forces and their components act on a body independently and simultaneously. The ANCOVA ( n c = 17, n e = 17) showed a statistically significant difference in favor of RG, whereby the effect sizes were moderate to large, and the largest differences have been observed in the ability of identifying real forces. The only difference was that RG students used the superposition of forces approach to solving mechanics problems and in SG the decomposition of forces approach has been used. Students from both groups solved mechanics problems for a period of two class hours. This experiment included two groups of first-year physics students from Rijeka (RG) ( n e = 27) and Split (SG) ( n c = 25) Universities. For this purpose we developed a 12-item two-tier multiple choice survey and conducted a quasiexperiment. In this study we investigated how two different approaches to drawing free body diagrams influence the development of students’ understanding of Newton’s laws, including their ability to identify real forces. Weizenbaum named his program ELIZA after Eliza Doolittle, a working-class character in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. The result was a somewhat intelligent-seeming response that reportedly deceived some early users of the program. Weizenbaum chose to make the DOCTOR script in the context of psychotherapy to "sidestep the problem of giving the program a data base of real-world knowledge", allowing it to reflect back the patient's statements in order to carry the conversation forward. ELIZA itself examined the text for keywords, applied values to said keywords, and transformed the input into an output the script that ELIZA ran determined the keywords, set the values of keywords, and set the rules of transformation for the output. While ELIZA is best known for acting in the manner of a psychotherapist, the speech patterns are due to the data and instructions supplied by the DOCTOR script. Joseph Weizenbaum's ELIZA, running the DOCTOR script, created a conversational interaction somewhat similar to what might take place in the office of "a psychotherapist in an initial psychiatric interview" and to "demonstrate that the communication between man and machine was superficial". Overview A conversation between a human and ELIZA's DOCTOR script The source-code is of high historical interest as it demonstrates not only the specificity of programming languages and techniques at that time, but also the beginning of software layering and abstraction as a means of achieving sophisticated software programming. However, more recently the MAD-SLIP source-code has now been discovered in the MIT archives and published on various platforms, such as. The original ELIZA source-code had been missing since its creation in the 1960s as it was not common to publish articles that included source code at this time. However, many early users were convinced of ELIZA's intelligence and understanding, despite Weizenbaum's insistence to the contrary. While ELIZA was capable of engaging in discourse, it could not converse with true understanding. Many academics believed that the program would be able to positively influence the lives of many people, particularly those with psychological issues, and that it could aid doctors working on such patients' treatment. He was surprised and shocked that individuals, including Weizenbaum's secretary, attributed human-like feelings to the computer program. ĮLIZA's creator, Weizenbaum, intended the program as a method to explore communication between humans and machines. As such, ELIZA was one of the first chatterbots ("chatbot" modernly) and one of the first programs capable of attempting the Turing test. The most famous script, DOCTOR, simulated a psychotherapist of the Rogerian school (in which the therapist often reflects back the patient's words to the patient), and used rules, dictated in the script, to respond with non-directional questions to user inputs. Whereas the ELIZA program itself was written (originally) in MAD-SLIP, the pattern matching directives that contained most of its language capability were provided in separate "scripts", represented in a lisp-like representation. Created to explore communication between humans and machines, ELIZA simulated conversation by using a pattern matching and substitution methodology that gave users an illusion of understanding on the part of the program, but had no representation that could be considered really understanding what was being said by either party. A conversation with ElizaĮLIZA is an early natural language processing computer program created from 1964 to 1967 at MIT by Joseph Weizenbaum. For other uses, see ELIZA (disambiguation).
